French professor and philosopher Yves Citton has dedicated his career to studying how the media shape our reality. According to him, in today’s societies, we live in a “mediarchy,” where our ability to perceive and act upon reality is mediated by a technological dimension that shapes what we feel, think, express, and do. In this sense, he introduces the idea of the media as reconfigurers of the temporality in which we live and as a central element in the definition of power relations. At INDEX, Citton will present a talk on his current line of research, drawing connections between power and technology, and will engage in a conversation with curator and researcher Liliana Coutinho.
