Jonna Kina (b. 1984, Finland) is a multidisciplinary artist who works with moving image, performance, sculpture, and installation. Her practice often begins with a process of deconstruction, revealing the structures, codes, and conventions that shape the way we see, hear, and interpret.
“Secret Words and Related Stories” is a collection of anonymously gathered passwords and the stories behind them. The starting point for this installation is personal secrets and security, as well as their possible place in contemporary society. In the video, young people aged 12 to 16 stand in front of a red background and read from a sheet of paper, narrating personal confessions, childhood memories, and clichéd thoughts. There we see introspective, humorous, and moving stories about a chosen word that often reveals personal information, which is the antithesis of its purpose.
